Who will win American Idol in 2010?

Submitted by The Critic on Wed, 2010-05-26 17:09

It should be Crystal, right?  Dial Idol's poll has it as Lee Dewyze.  Our poll is very close with 51% to Lee and 49% to Crystal Bowersox.

However, interestingly enough, Crystal's song has preferred by more people with 58% over Lee's 42%.

How will the result go?

Who will be rocking the stage at one of Hollywood's biggest parties of the year? Bret Michaels apparently.

What tribute will be paid to Mr Simon Cowell is leaving American Idol after tonight's show?

All will be revealed soon enough.

Final Two Performance Show

Submitted by The Critic on Tue, 2010-05-25 18:07

This is it. Who will be the next American Idol? The final chance for Lee and Crystal to earn your vote.

Three songs each tonight. Their favorite song from the season. A song chosen by producer Simon Fuller and the song they will release if they win.

Here is the voting information.

Lee Dewyze

Simon & Garfunkel - The Best of Simon & Garfunkel - The Boxer The Boxer

Voting Information

Judges comments:
Simon: That was a kiss on the cheek when I wanted a kiss on the lips.
Kara: It was very believable and I'm glad you connected to it.
Randy: A great way to start off the night. You sounded nice doing it but pick up the energy
Ellen: I think you did that better than the first time.

My thoughts: Again, boring. Did someone forget to tell Lee that it's the final chance to sing for the nation's vote?

Crystal Bowersox

Janis Joplin - Pearl - Me and Bobby McGee Me and Bobby McGee

Voting Information

Judges comments:
Simon: This bought me back to the time when we first fell in love with you.
Kara: You have fire in your belly tonight.
Randy: I hope you make a record like that.
Ellen: I think you are just so compelling on stage with that guitar.

My thoughts: Really? That was Crystal's favorite song of the season?

Lee Dewyze

R.E.M. - In Time - The Best of R.E.M. 1988-2003 - Everybody Hurts Everybody Hurts

Voting Information

Judges comments:
Simon: I thought that was a brilliant song choice for you. I understand that you're nervous. When you come out for your last performance, I want a ten out of ten
Kara: It wasn't a perfect vocal
Randy: I liked that, it was a lot better.
Ellen: I want to see more performance from that

My thoughts: What ghastly nonsense

Crystal Bowersox

Alannah Myles - Alannah Myles - Black Velvet Black Velvet

Voting Information

Judges comments:
Simon: You took that song and you absolutely nailed it. That was really good.
Kara: Tonight is the night to do it!
Randy: Mommasox is in it to winner.
Ellen: With all the wardrobe changes it's like a cher concert in here. That was fantastic

My thoughts: A much better song. Lots of energy. About time.

Lee Dewyze

U2 - All That You Can't Leave Behind - Beautiful Day Beautiful Day

Voting Information

Judges comments:
Simon: I felt you gave it a good effort. I genuinely wish the best for you.
Kara: I think you got swallowed up by that song. I think it was a bit big but you deserve to be here.
Randy:
Ellen: I'm so proud of you, you did a great job.

My thoughts: Really?! Not an original? What a let down! Boring, boring, boring. Absolutely pathetic! Lazy! Meh!

Crystal Bowersox

Susan Boyle - I Dreamed a Dream - Up to the Mountain Up to the Mountain

Voting Information

Judges comments:
Simon: I thought that was the best performance of the night so far. My final critique on this show is, that was outstanding.
Kara: You were completely emotionally connected with that.
Randy: This is what this is about. This is one of your best performances. That was incredible
Ellen: I cannot compare you to any contemporary artist right now

My thoughts: Did I wake up in an alternative reality this morning? Would either of these songs make top 40 radio? I think not. Dismal. Disappointing. What a let down!

What an absolutely rubbish season. They couldn't even manage two original songs for the contestants. What is wrong with these people?!

At least tomorrow we'll get to see some real performances by some real artists!

Of course, tonight will see Casey James going home.  With only 7% of the vote, surely he's going home.

Going home tonight: Casey James

Submitted by The Critic on Wed, 2010-05-19 18:54

I'm not even going to bother with a roundup of the polls this week.  Who is going home?  It's inevitable that it's Casey James.  If it's not, it's a travesty.

I'm maintained all along that Crystal Bowersox and Lee Dewyze should have been the finalists.  Tonight, that will become reality.

Congratulations to Crystal and Lee.  Farewell Casey.

I hope I'm right!

Top 3's own choice and judges choice

Submitted by The Critic on Tue, 2010-05-18 18:27

Three remain and tonight they get to pick their own song and then perform one chosen by the judges.  Get your own choice of song wrong and you should be gone as far as I'm concerned.

Here is the voting information.

Casey James

Eric Hutchinson - Sounds Like This - OK, It's Alright With Me OK, It's Alright With Me

Voting Information

Judges comments:
Simon: You're lucky you have two songs tonight. it sounded like you were busking for a couple of dollars.
Kara: When you pick something that's a first listen to a lot of people it's not going to work in your favour.
Randy: That song was just alright with me too. You can't just do a safe song like that.
Ellen: This is the moment. Live or die. I wish you would have bought it. You really needed to blow us away.

My thoughts: Seriously? That was your song choice Casey? Ok. Enjoy the finale next week. From the bleachers!

Crystal Bowersox

Melissa Etheridge - Melissa Etheridge: Greatest Hits - The Road Less Traveled - Come to My Window Come to My Window

Voting Information

Judges comments:
Simon: You haven't compromised yourself as an artist
Kara: Your tone doesn't have the rasp or tone that Melissa has
Randy: I didn't love the arrangement
Ellen: Melissa would be very proud of you

My thoughts: The judges were right. That wasn't anything like Melissa Etheridge. However, we're not wanting a karaoke singer I thought.

Lee Dewyze

Lynyrd Skynyrd - The Complete Collection: Lynyrd Skynyrd - Simple Man Simple Man

Voting Information

Judges comments:
Simon: That song was absolutely on the money.
Kara: What you did tonight is what ever contestant should have done
Randy: I could see you making a record like that. Brilliant song choice
Ellen: That's what we're talking about. You took this thing personally.

My thoughts: Boring. I'm sorry but these finalists couldn't pick a song to save themselves. Literally. Appalling song choices. The judges must be on some hard stuff to have been so ecstatic about that.

Casey James

John Mayer - Heavier Things - Daughters Daughters

Voting Information

Judges comments:
Simon:
Kara: I think you did a good job. You changed it up but you didn't stray too far from the original.
Randy:
Ellen: I liked that. I thought it was beautiful too.

My thoughts: Definitely a better song choice but it was waaaaay too slow.
