Two weeks in and I think these contestants are still resting on their laurels. Sanjaya finally managed to show that this is a bit of mojo in there somewhere and Jordin is starting to show that she's a real contender. Thanks to
Lulu and Peter Noone from
Herman's Hermits who coached the Idols this week.
Lets take a quick recap of who sang what:
Haley Scarnato sang
Tell Him
Chris Richardson sang
Don't Let the Sun Catch you Crying
Stephanie Edwards sang
You Don't Have to Say You Love Me
Blake Lewis sang
Time of the Season
Lakisha Jones sang
Diamonds are Forever
Phil Stacey sang
Tobacco Road
Jordin Sparks sang
I Who Have Nothing
Sanjaya Malakar sang
You Really Got Me
Gina Glocksen sang
Paint it Black
Chris Sligh sang
She's Not There
Melinda Doolittle sang
As Long As he Needs Me
Lets take a look at this weeks polls and see what the numbers might indicate about tonight's elimination show.
For the second week in a row, Sanjaya tops the "Who does everyone want to go home" poll with almost 60%. Dropping in at second place is Phil Stacey on 12% while Stephanie Edwards is in third most preferred to be sent home on 10%. Everyone else has less than 5% of the vote each.
In the "Who is everyone's favourite Idol" poll this week, once again Melinda Doolittle is at the top but her lead has been hacked by a quarter down to 29%. Big mover #1 this week is number two favourite, Jordin Sparks who takes 24% of the vote, up from 15% last week. Third place belongs to the beat-boxing Blake Lewis on 21%, up from 8% last week.
The biggest fall belongs to Lakisha Jones who dropped from 21% last week to only 4% this week which is a bit of a surprise considering how she had 60% of the popularity vote a few weeks back. No one else managed to make double digits this week either.
Now, who are the bottom three as predicted by the polls?
There are a bunch of people very close together on 2% but Chris Sligh and Phil Stacey are at the bottom of that bunch while Stephanie Edwards has what I think must be the lowest ever recorded popularity vote in an Idolblog.com poll.
It's pretty close as to who else might be in the bottom three this week. Gina Glocksen is the next likely contender followed by Chris Richardson. In any case, the polls are pretty strongly in support of it being Stephanie Edwards being sent packing tonight.
DialIdol's bottom three is once again quite different in contrast. The third lowest place was Chris Sligh on 6.32%. Second lowest was Gina Glocksen on 6.07% and lastly at the bottom was Haley Scarnato on 6.03%.
Phil Stacey surprizingly was in DialIdol's #2 spot.
So who is going home tonight? Stick around and find out. The results are just around the corner.
What was tonight's medley? Peter Noone and Lulu are both performing tonight so there will be no group song.
Going home:
Stephanie Edwards
Bottom Two:
Chris Richardson
Safe:
Phil Stacey, Melinda doolittle, Blake Lewis, Chris Sligh, Lakisha Jones
Jordin Sparks, Sanjaya Malakar, Haley Scarnato, Gina Glocksen
Yet to be decided:
Sanjaya is posted at Vote For The Ugliest http://www.votefortheugliest.com - - site is like Am I hot or Not. You can post your pics also for other American Idol, Dancing With the Stars, men, Women, etc.
Yo, it's all about the sociology - I mean, there are a lot of great African-American singers here- and so the black vote gets split. Being less than 20 percent of the population, it's no wonder that the "fringe" blacks are getting eliminated. Yes, more than blacks are voting for Melinda and Lakisha and Jordin, but we're talking about how people lean when they vote, and certain people tend to vote for their own race (or group).
I think that tendencies are working to Sanjaya's benefit - he and Jordin split the youth vote, he gets the Indian (and maybe all the non-American) voters, and the girls who have a crush on long hair. Sorry, Simon, it is NOT a singing contest...
I think I know why that Girl was Crying. It was Sanjaya. I mean he really sold it and got into it. Though his Vocal talents...not so swell. Stephine was one of my favorites. Though her last preformance I mean I could not really get into it. She is a great singer its just she did hold back and she did not really get into the song. The nice thing is that the Records company must of not agreed with american and will hopefully train her to her best so she will have a record out. ^.^
Jordon I think is the up and coming talent. She is the Fresh Pure and hip new voice that american wants to hear. I mean most young viewers and Teens alike want to hear a fresh new voice. Something that really is now, not 40 years ago. No Offense I love Lakisha and she can really sing though I think her Popularity will not be so high when she puts out her single. I mean she has a like Diva voice. I mean like she could of been in the Supremes with Dianna Ross. Though Jordin really got into it and I think that I would vote for Jordin. I mean her Youth is what sells it. And Halieys FINE body is what kept her in the votes.
Anyways Melina is the best singer, though I just dont know..I would rather vote for Jordin. I mean she is 17 right now and her voice is like that! So think when she is in her career and she is like 19 and or 20 she will be the next top artist. I mean hot! Top 20 Billboards. I see the Next Carrie Underwood! Jordin Sparks! And I think Melinda and Lakisha will deffinatly get a recording contract, though Jordin would sell more. ^.^
I think the Sanjaya sympathy of his "voters" is trampling on the opportunities of "seasoned" contestants.
Sanjaya should be out soon otherwise he will exist at the expense of "now" singers. Sanjaya is tomorrow's singer not "now". He needs to practice MORE!
It's so unfair for those other contestants who have practiced years and years only to be left out by a "starting" Malakar. It's demoralizing and despiriting to the other contestants.
It is inconceivable that Sanjaya could remain in the competition after his absolutely horrific performance Tuesday. How long will we suffer seeing someone (meaning everyone) who can sing better sent home, while this kid continues? Nothing against the kid - he's just a kid - but he cannot sing or perform anywhere near the level of (any/all) the other contestants. Sure, he hits a sweet note here and there - but so does anyone walking down the street in your town. That doesn't make them an Idol. My biggest problem with this whole thing is that at the end of this competition is a recording contract, and to deprive someone truly talented in favor of a joke (votefortheworst) contest winner isn't just a shame, it's borderline criminal.
Bottom line this year is that there are two contestants who can really sing - Melinda and Lakisha. Jordin is up-and-coming, but not there yet. The guys are abysmal with not one real singer in the group. Take it from someone who has been in music for 25+ years, this is one of the worst batch of contestants ever on AI.
And to people who vote for Sanjaya based on "potential" - get real. Let him tryout for Idol 2012. The competition is for here and now, for someone who is ready now to go into the studio, not five or ten years from now after some training.

Okay, Sanjaya haters! I think the haze of anger has blinded people to the fact that Sanjaya would not have gotten past Hollywood week and the judges if he could not sing. If you remember his audition, he sounded great, better than his sister even. He can sing, but he just lacks the confidence to perform. Please remember that he's kinda young, not a seasoned professional yet. I for one am voting for him, not because he is the worst, but because of the potential I see there. Think about it. Kelly, Fantasia, Carrie grew in this competition. They didn't start off as the best singer in the bunch. Kelly barely made it onto the stage show. She was the wild card. I saw a glimmer of the confidence in Sanjaya this week. He can sing, but he has to grow into a performer.
Calling the attention of the Producers of American Idol...maybe its time to look into the one phone call/text from one number, or find a way to bring back credibility to the show. That neo-terrorist group at vftw.com is making a fool out of you guys and making a mockery of the whole show.
it doesn't occur to these no-brainers that what they are doing are mean and nasty.
Poor Sanjaya...the pawn in this ugliness.
America..why do we allow this?
Stephanie, Sanjaya, Blake and Gina were all horrible last night, so I'm fine to see any one of them go.
SONGJANOT was not terrible last night he was very horrific it was like the Gong Show night mares all over again. Remember folks that Chicken-Little kid from last year who got voted in the top 10 and was cute but no singing ability, well our new chicken little is Sanjaya. I think we either boy-cut the show or get more people to vote for the ones that can sing well. Fox Five is loving the ratings.
So are you telling me that the sleeze of American "culture' is helping the Sanjaya cause? Old H. Stern must be so envious of Idol ratings. What a pathetic power trip that Stern gets off on. And to what end? The one lovely show that seems to reward talented young singers gets bombshelled by the negatives. Why can't Idol go to one vote per phone number?
People, to begin with, the only ones that can sing are Melinda and Lakisha. Sanjaya is ONLY still around for rating purposes. It's all part of the business. The problem begins with voters not recognizing talent and being manipulated by comments made by the judges. Also, when you sing a song that Americans recognize, as Sanjaya did, you have more staying power. If he would have done a British song that no one ever heard, he would have been out of there.
I am sick to think that they sent home Stephanie. Howard Stern need to cut his hair to really hear Sanjaya sing! THE KID CAN NOT SING!!! My three year old grandson sings better than him. Can't say that I'll be watching American Idol for the rest of the season if Sanjaya isn't gone next week.
Sanjaya should have been gone a long time ago, and i can't stand that they sent Stephanie home. I will personally not be watching the show anymore if they keep Sanjaya past next week.
Stephanie's performance last night was absolutely unacceptable ... it was pure torture to listen to. At least Sanjaya got the audience going (a little bit anyway).
There's no debate that Stepanie is better than Sanjaya ... but not last night ... and I was voting based on last nights performance ... C ya Steph!
Hello, America, whats going on this year, why are we sending home the GREAT singers as pertained to the LOUSY ones? Is this American Idol or Superstar?
Wake up everyone and take the cotton out of your ears, get rid of the bad singers first, not the good ones.
I agree withe the others I don't think i will be watching anymore, how in the world can sanjaya still be there? He should have been gone weeks ago! He is horrible. It is painful to listen to him! And chris richardson on the bottom 2? Come on! The other Chris should be on the bottom 2. stephanie should not have gone, but America doesn't go by voice obviously! not this year anyway. i guess next week i will have to hit mute when Sanjaya sings, and if he stays again i will cut American Idol for good!
UGH! I just can't figure out the voting bloc that keeps Sanjaya in this thing. So many that should go before Stephanie. Too bad the country is full of knuckleheads with cellphones. C'est la vie.
My wife is screaming into the phone to her sister about how she will not be watching the show any more this season. I'll probably still watch, but won't be voting anymore, since it doesn't appear to make since any more to do so. While I actually like Sanjaya, he really can't sing or perform. Stephanie, although I felt she held back last night, was really one of the better performers and I know she has to have caught the eye of those who can really help her career. It's a shame that she didn't make the top ten and have the opportunity to take part in the tour. "The show is really becoming a joke now if Howard Stern or "Vote for the worst.com" can actually affect the voting this much.
I am disgusted. I thought this was a singing contest. No offense to young Sanjaya Malakar, probably a really nice kid, but HE CAN'T SING! What is wrong with this picture-sending Stephanie home who has a great voice, and Sanjaya stays again? Did you all hear him sing last night-with his hacking of "you really got me'? Come on people. Ok, young gals probably think he is cute, and he is, but come on, he can't sing! OMG-I am losing interest in this show. Last season was much better. Geez.
We all know that Simon says it's a singing competition, but really that's only part of the game. The other part is it's a popularity competition and Sanjaya beat Stephanie in it this week.
Simple as that I sorry to say becasue Sanjaya was bloody awful again
