American Idol 2007 Episode 24 - Top 10 Performance Show Review

Submitted by The Critic on Tue, 2007-03-27 18:36.

Last week Stephanie Edwards was sent packing by the American public after she couldn't muster enough votes to keep her in the competition and gave the Idolblog.com polls a two from two success rate!

This week our top 10 take on the the songs that have inspired the person who is coaching them this week - Gwen Stefani Gwen Stefani. Gwen has certainly made her mark over the last decade with her own music and as part of the band No Doubt No Doubt. Tomorrow night she'll perform Gwen Stefani - The Sweet Escape - The Sweet Escape The Sweet Escape with Akon Akon during the results show.

Right, let's get into it. First up to night is:

Contestant: Lakisha Jones

Song Choice: Donna Summer - Greatest Hits - Last Dance Last Dance
Voting Numbers: 1 866 436 5701

Another typical song from Lakisha. I'm starting to get a little bored by her though. It's always the same and I wish it would be a little different.

Contestant: Chris Sligh

Song Choice: The Police - The Very Best of Sting & The Police - Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic Every Little Thing She Does is Magic
Voting Number: 1 866 436 5702

Ok, it started off ok but by the end of it Sligh was rushing and getting ahead of the beat.

Contestant: Gina Glocksen

Song Choice: The Pretenders - Last of the Independents - I'll Stand By You I'll Stand By You
Voting Number: 1 866 436 5703

This was definitely Gina's best performance to date. Great song choice!

Contestant: Sanjaya Malakar

Song Choice: No Doubt - No Doubt: The Singles 1992-2003 - Bathwater Bath Water
Voting Number: 1 866 436 5704

What is up with that hair?! Seriously. He looks like a Roman Centurion! I really can't imagine that he's going to be going home again this week but no doubt he'll be the favourite on the polls to be sent packing though.

Contestant: Haley Scarnato

Song Choice: Cyndi Lauper - The Essential: Cyndi Lauper - True Colors True Colors
Voting Number: 1 866 436 5705

I really liked this. Nice tone. Possibly her best performance so far.

Contestant: Phil Stacey

Song Choice: The Police - The Very Best of Sting & The Police - Every Breath You Take Every Breath you Take br> Voting Number: 1 866 436 5706

I think Phil is back tonight. That was nice.

Contestant: Melinda Doolittle

Song Choice: Donna Summer - The Journey: The Very Best of Donna Summer - Heaven Knows Heaven Knows
Voting Number: 1 866 436 5707

Again, another great performance from Melinda. Like Lakisha though, it is starting to sound very similar every week.

Contestant: Blake Lewis

Song Choice: The Cure - The Cure: Greatest Hits - Lovesong Lovesong
Voting Number: 1 866 436 5708

Another subtle week from Blake. Nice and diverse.

Contestant: Jordin Sparks

Song Choice: No Doubt & Bounty Killer - No Doubt: The Singles 1992-2003 - Hey Baby Hey Baby
Voting Number: 1 866 436 5709

It was ok I guess. Listening to Jordin though, I'm not as inspired as many of you are. I'm not sure I get her.

Contestant: Chris Richardson

Song Choice: No Doubt - Tragic Kingdom - Don't Speak Don't Speak
Voting Number: 1 866 436 5710

Who was your favourite? Make sure you vote in our poll.

I wish I could vote, not just for AI, but for your political leaders--who, unfortunately, have a huge impact on the rest of the world. In both cases, whoever does the voting (and yes, as someone said, whoever does the counting) is...how do I put it?....well, blind and/or deaf and/or exceedingly impaired in some way or another. Really...what is wrong with you people? You pick some spastic air head with no talent and not an intelligent thing to say, and let go of the only person (in your country?) who is articulate and--what a concept--who actually has talent. Is it that you enjoy being perceived by the entire world as incredibly stupid? Honestly. Even considering all of the people left with AI, there's no point. Yes, Melinda is the strongest vocally, LaKisha is great, and so on...but the pickings are slim since you've eliminated the only people worth watching (Chris Sligh and Sundance were worth keeping around). The only hope for redemption for your country is to vote for Gina--personality and talent. What a concept. While I hate America bashing, it's just so damned easy given how every type of voting system you people have appears to be appropriated by whatever idiot wants to lead you down the well-trodden road of stupidity. People actually follow Howard Stern? Good lord! While AI is not rocket science, I wouldn't mind watching it for reasons other than to see talentless teens rely on novel hair styles to sway votes. The fact that Chris Daughtry was voted off last year should have been a clue. I'm not sure any of you would recognize talent if it fell on your faces...oh wait--Antonella, Alaina and probably Haley would likely be willing to oblige on that score, since that may be their only talent. Just keep adding fodder to perception of Americans as brainless twits and keep voting for the androgynous wonder: it all just gives the rest of the world more reason to feel superior (like we need more, given who you elected as president). Good show America!

Like most reality shows, American Idol is rigged.

From the beginning where bad singers are purposely allowed to see the judges so they could make fun of them, to the finals where they conveniently have tons of early footage of the top 12, even though over 60,000 singers supposedly enter.

Think about how conveniently blanced the winners and runner-ups are... as to not offend any particular viewing group of a particular race, age or gender...

Since an older white male won last year (coincidentally when AI raised their entry age limit), I think a younger person is due. So I think they've selected Jordin or Sanjaya to win this year... and I don't see them letting Sanjaya win, so it's Jordin all the way baby!!

And for you people who think their vote actually makes a difference just remember this famous quote from Joe Stalin... "The people who cast the votes don't matter, the people who count the votes do."

I agree with your comments about Lakisha & Melinda.
It echoes what I was saying during the show, both great singers but starting to sound same ol' same ol'.
Blake I liked, he is interesting to watch.
Sanjay, I thought the hair was great!
Chris who?

You like Haley, but not Melinda? You're lame.

I think Jordin Sparks is such an amazing singer. I thought her song choice was great. It was different, but still great.
