What was that sketch at the top of the show about with Ben Stiller? A nice piece of movie promotion inter weaved with the Idol brand.
Over 88 million votes came in last night and there were less than a million votes separating the Top 2. That certainly makes for an interesting result next week.

Some African kid performs a song as part of the whole Idol Gives Back thing. Texting "Alive" to 90999 will donate $5 to some HIV related charity (Keep a Child Alive). The performance is a little weird and feels out of place. African Idol, yes. American Idol, no. However, if you really want, Noah's performance is available on iTunes if you would like to buy it.
Danny's trip to Milwaukee is up first with a presidential like motorcade to take him to thousands of waiting fans. Danny is reunited with Jamar who was cut just before the top 12. Danny looks pretty emotional as he meets his hometown fans. Crazy times! There is a huge crowd out to see him with the mayor, not to mention the crowd at the baseball stadium.
It's not verdict time for Danny though. Kris takes to the middle of the stage to watch his homecoming video where he went back to Conway, AK. A much smaller crowd but just as vocal on his arrival. Still a lot of people and a ticker-tape parade. What an emotional time with his dad greeting him though.
Ryan is nervous tonight.
Jordin Sparks performs her new single
Battlefield. Does anyone else think her new song sounds a lot like this:
Awesome God
Adam's homecoming to San Diego included one girl who decided to streak his arrival. Check out all those other screaming teenage girls. It's crazy there too. Adam gets a day dedicated to him while a couple of young girls scream at the fact that he signed their shoe.
One final performance before we get to the verdict we've all been waiting for. Katy Perry and
Waking Up In Vegas. She has a terrible outfit on and probably would have been better to have lip synced. Ew.. get on with the results people!
Finally! After the millionth ad break of the night, the lights are dimmed and the results are read out. Kris Allen is through to the Finale next week! Does that mean we're about to say goodbye to Adam Lambert? NO! It's the end of the road for Danny Gokey.
America, your finalists for 2009 are: Kris Allen and Adam Lambert.
Tonight's result show is likely to be massive. I think most people have been expecting an Adam vs Danny final for most of this season of American Idol but Kris certainly threw a spanner in the works last night after his performance of Heartless.
Our poll indicates that Danny Gokey will be the one heading home tonight but as we know in this game, anything can happen. Danny is sitting on 24% while Kris Allen is on 36% and Adam Lambert, 41% of the popular vote.

The second poll regard who do people not want to see in the American Idol grand final is also interesting as it appears Kris is seen as the most deserving of a place with 26% while both Danny and Adam are split on 37%. I imagine that both Danny and Adam's fans believe they could successfully beat Kris in the final vote and would prefer he was in the final as opposed to their stronger competition.
The third poll from last night really shows how Kris hit a home run with his performance of Heartless. I wouldn't be at all surprised if we actually see his version released as a single at some point.
Dial Idol has the results pretty tight. Same order though but 29.55, 27.99 and 27.1 is incredibly close. Are we in for a massive shock tonight?
Adam Lambert needs to "bite the dust" .... He is NOT an American Idol.. And...at this point he can still get a record made...
I'm still having a hard time picking between Kris..and Danny...they both are great...AND...they both are humble to all that's happening to them...unlike Adam...
I'm just hoping Adam goes this week...
Then the hard part begins....Kris or Danny....???
GO KRIS....YOU ARE AWSOME
After the shock of having Adam in the bottom three last week, this week there has been even more drama before the show has even started.
It's a massive show tonight. Not only is it the 300th episode of American Idol, one of our top three is going to miss out on a place in the Grand Finale of the show.
There are two performances each tonight. One picked by the judges and an own choice. Should be interesting.
It could be a mix of good and bad tonight depending on the song choices.
Let's get into the show!

Reasonable Gokey performance but I'm still not sold on him.
Randy: Let the games begin. A lot of energy and you're performing like crazy.
Kara: The dancing was a little gyrating for me.
Paula: I think you did really good.
Simon: Just to remind everyone that this is a singing show not that dancing show next door. What was with the sax solo?
Apologize is such a massive song and it was rather a second rate performance for me.
Randy: This showed who you could be in the music business.
Kara: At this stage you need to be hitting it out of the park. Take more chances
Paula: There was a loud bum note but I'm so proud of you.
Simon: I don't think you can blame him for anything when you chose the song for him
Another outstanding performance by Adam. Absolutely incredible.
Randy: A little going off the melody for me. It's a great song and you're a really talented guy.
Kara: You made that unbelievable.
Paula: It was one brillant performance. That's one American Idol I'm looking at.
Simon: It may be a little biased but that was a great song choice. If you're not in the final next week it will be one of the biggest upsets ever.
This was an incredibly smart song choice for Danny. It was a little flat in places but the arrangement was superb and should cement him into the Grand Final with Mr Lambert.
Randy: You showed you're here because you can really, really, really sing. Mad vocals.
Kara: Stunning. Nothing else to say. Amazing.
Paula: You put your magic on it and it was a beautiful, beautiful thing.
Simon: I love the song but I don't think it needed the arrangement. I would, however, call that a vocal masterclass.
Well, this just got interesting didn't it. That was a brilliant arrangement as well. Bring on the results show!
Randy: I like that version better than the original. I think tonight's voting is going to be crazy!
Kara: Perfect! The tone, the pitch, the phrasing!
Paula:
Simon: I had written you out of the competition but that performance has changed everything.
Not his best performance, but really consistent.
Randy: You're one of the biggest stars we've had on this stage.
Kara: How do you hit those notes and still talk the next day? See you at the finals.
Paula: We'll be seeing you next week and many years afterwards.
Simon: I don't want anyone to assume you're going to be in the final but rather vote to make sure you are.
Paula, stick to judging, clapping hands above head, and dancing standing still, cause you ain't got it compared to Tina Turner who's way better at performing!
Kris's performance was weak and the wrong idol (Alison) went home, but the good thing is that she will go on to perform and grow because she truly is a great performer & artist at the tender age of 17! Sorry Kris, but I grew up with the Beatles, and you ain't got it!
Good Luck Adam & Danny continue on & Best Wishes in the future!
Someone else is going home tonight. Three will be left. Adam and two others will remain.

Over 64 million votes were registered. The highest ever outside of a finale. That is massive!
Daughtry and No Doubt will perform as well as Paula Abdul taking to the American Idol stage for the first time ever.
The top 4 perform
School's Out. Who would ever have thought an Alice Cooper song would have been performed on American Idol?
Paula Abdul takes to the stage and does her best Britney Spears impersonation with
Here for the Music. Someone needs to tell her she's not 20 any more. It was an ok performance but it's hard to judge vocals when it's all being lip-synced.
No Doubt perform
Just A Girl and this isn't lip-synced. What a difference live performances make.
Making it into the Top 3 means a trip home for a home town parade so there is a lot at stake. It's time to find out the fate of the first two people.
The first person heading into the Top 3 is Kris Allen.
Daughtry are back to debut their new single No Surprize from their upcoming album Leave this Town which debuts on July 14, 2009.
The next person who is in the Top 3 is: Adam Lambert. Danny Gokey is also safe which means that Allison Iraheta is going home.
Next week it's 2 songs each. One that is the judges pick and one that is their own. See you then!
After the shock of having Adam in the bottom three last week, this week there has been even more drama before the show has even started.
Prior to the show this week, one of the towers on the set started to collapse. This has meant that the Idols haven't had the chance to have a complete dress rehearsal but, as they say in Hollywood, the show must go on.
It's rock night on American Idol and Slash is mentoring the four remaining finalists.
And to spice things up just a little bit more, tonight there will be six performances. Two of them will be duets!
Let's get into the show!

Another outstanding performance by Adam. Absolutely incredible.
Randy: No one is ever gone think about broadway again. You're a rockstar tonight.
Kara: You're a rock god. You should be making a rock album.
Paula: You're a whole lotta perfect.
Simon: I thought the performance was a little understated. (teasing) No one can top that tonight.
It was a good performance but she hasn't got a thing on Adam tonight. It would be interesting to see her do a duet with Adam.
Randy: I didn't think it was the best song for you tonight!
Kara: Janis is right for you but a different song would have been better. I think you transform when you get on that stage.
Paula: If they ever do a bio pick of Janis Joplin then you should get the role.
Simon: You weren't original. I would have chosen a Queen song.
Kris and Danny perform Styx
Renegade. It's ok but it's not really a great start. There are some moments of goodness but I'm not sure it was all it could have been.
Randy: The individual voices were ok but the harmonies were great.
Kara: You definitely had some moments. It was united and strong.
Paula: It was powerful and compelling.
Simon: Danny was better than Kris
Classic song. Nice touch with the guitar but it was little on the lite side.
Randy: You're not really a rocker but I loved what you were doing on that guitar.
Kara: You're definitely the softer side of rock but that wasn't a great performance for me. I think there is more than what you delivered.
Paula: Your signature was all over it. You are an artist on that stage.
Simon: I didn't actually like that very much. It was like eating ice for lunch.
No sir. I didn't like it. Pitchy and the screaming really wasn't pleasant.
Randy: It was alright. I'd give you an A+ for a valiant effort though.
Kara: I think you took it a little too far. I commend you for taking the chance though.
Paula: I don't think that was the right song for you.
Simon: That last note was like watching a horror movie. I still think you're going to be safe though.
Finally it's the duet between Allison and Adam. They sing
Slow Love and it's pretty much as good as I expected it to be.
Randy: You guys are our two seasoned rock stars and you should do a duet on your albums.
Kara: You both pushed each other to be better.
Paula: You're totally in sync with each other.
Simon: You win the show tonight in the battle of the duets.
Tomorrow night, one more goes home to leave us with 3!
Sorry to say I am so disapointed by Jamie Foxx whom I LOVE. Where is HIS voice? I was so looking foward to hearing him actually sing. He did not show the talent he showed when playing Ray.
Not to mention it was an entirely inappropriate song to sing while children were in the audience and viewing on television.
Stunned
Ok, so I'm late getting here today. I was flying to Melbourne, Australia for the Logies (Local version of the Emmy's) and got delayed due to extra security measures around the Swine Flu. Fun times I tell you.
Anyhoo, I've just caught a glimpse of the bottom three. Did I just see Adam Lambert there? What America? Are you crazy?!
Taylor Hicks is back performing.
Joining Danny Gokey and Allison Iraheta in the safe seats is Kris Allen. Crazy! Adam Lambert is bottom two with Matt Giraud?!! Matt must be going home. SURELY! Surely?
Jamie Fox has performed. I guess that means he'll be getting another chart boost this week.
40 Million votes cast this week! Biggest vote ever for this season.
And the result is in. Matt is going home. No shock elimination this week!
